Sunflower
for Lynn
Standing so tall and strong,
swaying in the swirling wind
of the approaching storm,
the sunflower glows in the sun
soaking in all the rays around her.
Suddenly raindrops pound the earth with
no warning of the tempest being unleashed;
it is a deluge all at once washing over her
while the windstorm pulls at her petals.
The sunflower is unwavering as she clings
to the earth with strong roots beneath her,
she is steadfast and beautiful to behold.
Then as quickly as it came, the storm passes.
The raindrops are wiped away by brilliant sunshine
and the sunflower stands ever triumphant.
