I cry a river of tears for humanity
Struggling to keep our heads above water
drowning in problems great and small.
I cry a river of tears for unrequited love
The pain of a broken heart can tear you apart
Perhaps forcing one to live in darkness or live a lie.
I cry a river of tears for inhumanity
The abuse of our dear little ones
And all God’s defenseless creatures.
I cry a river of tears for the unfairness of this world
The disease, poverty and despair and
For those wishing the welcome release of death.
I cry a river of tears for unbearable heartache
Losing a loved one to violence or just too soon
There can be nothing worse.
Sometimes I feel as if I’m drowning in this river
as maybe sometimes we all do
Asking God to throw a lifeline and holding on to the joys in life
is the only way to survive this often turbulent and rage-filled
river of life.
