If Things Were Different

If things were different I’d be holding you
If things were different I’d be kissing you
To watch you from a distance causes me pain
I can only wonder if you feel the same.

When you are near me it makes my heart flutter
A light brush of your hand rekindles my desire
I love to watch you laugh and look into your eyes
Thinking about this lost love makes me want to cry.

To live my life in this torment and yearning
Is sometimes more than I can bear
Such a hopeless situation to be in love with two
Sometimes I think it’d be better if I’d never met you.

My wish is for you to find happiness
And for us to always remain dear friends
The bond we share runs deep and strong
However, the love between us we know is wrong.

If things were different I’d tell you I love you
If things were different I’d tell you I want you
I know forever you will be in my heart
I also know that forever we’ll be apart.
