The Soul's Window
The eyes are the windows to our soul
it was once said. How true.
If someone is in pain you can see it
through their false smiles and laughter too.
If someone loves you, it leaves them naked,
there's no hiding that emotion.
The anger in someone's eyes is
frightening, it can be explosive.
When you look into a person's eyes
you wonder who is really in there.
Are they truthful or just full of lies?
Keep your eyes open, be wary.
But it is looking into the eyes of
the ones you love that's best --
So reassuring, so safe, so warm.
Look into the eyes of your soulmate,
you'll find they'll never do you harm.
Close your eyes now, it's time to rest.
Angels Are All Around Us
Angels are all around us
Feel their whisper in the air
A gift from God above
to keep us safe here on Earth.
They are full of the purest love
and the light of God
So fortunate to be the protector.
Such loveliness, such grace
Can hardly be imagined
In a place where there
can be so much pain.
The sweet heavenly music
That one aches to hear
Can be found in the ones you love
It is they who are the angels we can see.
The Precipice
I climb the precipice
trying to reach its peak.
It is a steep climb and
every step is perilous.
It is a game I realize
me against this mountain.
The cards are spread out before me now;
I must play the game.
If I win, perhaps I will be contented
or will I try to climb yet another mountain?
I try to get out of the game,
but the climb back down seems impossible.
I scream "I'm beaten, I have to stop!"
But the mountain is deaf to my pleas --
It has filters on its ears that pick and choose,
so my words are lost.
I reach a safe spot and pause to rest.
Noticing a cave I think maybe I can sleep,
just for a little while.
I enter the cave and am engulfed by
its utter blackness.
I want to run back into the sun,
but it too will suffocate me.
Finally, I sleep.
I awake from my slumber dazed and tired
But continue the climb as I know I must.
Making progress now I feel a renewed
sense of strength and faith.
Perhaps it will all be worthwhile.
Seeing the peak now, I know I am close.
Will I make it? I just don't know.
But I persevere, scratching and clawing
my way.
My hand reaches over to pull me up
to the ever elusive vertex.
I lose my footing and feel myself
falling, falling.
As I plunge downward I realize it's my own fault.
I scream "I'm sorry for my selfishness!"
but my words are thrown to the wind.
Somehow the mountain takes pity on me.
I land close to the ground badly bruised
but alive.
I look up at the tremendous force above me
and realize I have to stop fighting it.
I must learn to accept that it is the ascent
that matters, not reaching the zenith.
That is for another time, another place.
Soulmate
You are the one, my only
true love and I am yours.
If ever there is any doubt,
one look in your eyes
tells me it is so.
Our love burns like an
eternal flame
That cannot be extinguished
or tread upon.
So many years behind us now,
you've been there through it all.
And now there is another that
we share our lives with.
He is the pure joy that is the
result of our love.
You are the one, my only
true love.
The Game
Life is full of so much love,
But love is often laced with pain.
This pain allows the soul to grow
And the seeds of love we must sow.
Every heart holds a special key
To be tried time and time again,
And all hearts shall search until they find
The lock that holds their special gold mine.
It all seems like one big game,
Full of empty promises and uncertainty.
Then why do we still play?
The hope of finding happiness someday.
Rounding the corner and nearing the end,
You find there is no winner of this game!
You learn the saddest part -
All players end up with a broken heart.
One question remains
What did I get out of this?
The only thing you may find
Is a well-earned piece of mind.
The Little Things
Sometimes it's the little things in life
that get you by.
With so much heartache, so much pain
At times it may seem that there's
very little that's good.
When you're at a low point
stay up and watch the sunrise,
glimpse a butterfly flitting
happily from flower to flower
or watch the changing hues of the trees
or the snow as it comes down from the heavens,
it's all miraculous.
Notice a mother with her
newborn child in her arms,
she has been given the gift of life.
Listen to a song with so much feeling
that you can't help but sing along.
Go up into the mountains and
see all of God's wonderful creations.
Do something unselfish for someone,
it will be repaid a thousand times.
Hug a true friend and let them know
how much you care about them.
Hold your loved one, be sure to tell
them how much you love them...
The love is sure to come back to you,
for love is what life is all about.
The Sun and the Moon
I am cold, said the Moon
Then turn yourself to me, said the Sun
You are so warm, so bright!
Ah yes, you've discovered my charm.
So the Moon stayed close to the Sun
Ever addicted to her radiance
He basked in her eternal warmth
Was enveloped by her beauty.
One the day the Moon asked the Sun
Please, revolve around me for a while
Oh no! said the Sun
It is I who must always remain at the center.
The Moon became angry
He tried to pull away
But found he could not
Her force was too strong.
Sun, Sun, called the Moon
Undo this curse, let me go
I cannot, replied the Sun
I can see you need me too much.
And so the Moon let himself be blinded by her light
Although the inner struggle continued
He could never seem to break away
He didn't know what was right anymore.
Then one day the Moon realized what he must do
He stood up to the Sun and said,
I no longer need your light, I will make it on my own
So he blocked the light of the Sun
And for a moment, the Sun turned black
And the Moon thought he had won. |
A Lovely Field
Ahead of me is a field
that holds the charms of this world.
I would like to enter it --
it's beckoning to me.
But this field could be dangerous
although it could be wonderful too.
I don't know if I should go.
The road to the right is a worn path
with long ago forgotten flowers.
So I turn to the left toward the field.
Faintly, I hear it calling me.
Standing at the edge, it alights all my senses,
I know I could lose myself in it.
Unsure whether to enter the field,
I take one step onto the dewy grass.
Unable to resist it's beckoning any longer
I take a few small steps.
Liking what I feel I run into the field.
Everything is so soft and warm here
the flowers so beautiful, the grass so green.
Running about the field my spirit soars!
I don't know if I can ever leave now.
Lying in the grass absorbing the beauty
around me as my skin drinks in the warm sun,
I feel contented but a growing sense of alarm.
I don't want to leave, but somehow I know I must.
It begins to rain, lightly at first
I want to run and shelter myself
Although the rain feels good on my
warmed skin, so I stay a little longer.
The rain comes down harder and harder
But yet, I stay, I am drenched.
The rain stops. The sun makes its entrance once again.
I walk out of the field with a new feeling in my heart.
I'll never forget that field or the way the rain felt
pouring on me.
But I know that field is a place for dreamers and I
must awaken from it's spell.
It Rained On My Heart
First a small sprinkle of
your love brushed my skin
like the morning dew
Then I started to really
feel it penetrate my skin
and move toward my heart
As I felt droplets of your love
I wanted it to rain harder
to wash away the salty waters already there
And then when your love
began to pour on me
it was
exhilarating
it was
exciting
it was
wonderful!
The waters that fell upon my soul
created an unending pool
and now I love the rain!
Mist of the Ocean
Your heart opens up to me
like the eternal gates
Your warm smile feels like
the sun shining upon me
Your loving embrace is as comforting
as an early spring night
The caring you show me is as pure
as the light of the moon
The friendship we share is as solid
as the Earth
The love you give flows in o'er the
waves of the ocean -
And the gentle mist I feel is the most
happiness anyone could ask for.
A Generation Ravine
We are so many years apart
you and I.
You are full of so much wisdom,
but I,
the knowledge you lack.
I listen to your words of wisdom
unwillingly,
but do heed the advice.
But you are deaf to my knowledge,
I am given no credit,
no thanks.
Your words fall upon me like ice
and make me shiver.
But then you melt --
until the next storm.
Can't you see who I am?
I am old for my years,
and my shoulders sag from
the weight.
And for this, I receive
nothing.
Running
Why are people always running?
I'm running
running into myself,
out of myself and around myself too.
You can't escape whatever it is you're
running from
it catches up to you in the end.
At times you think you've got it beat and then
you see that shadow behind you,
creeping up slowly, ever so slowly.
Run, run fast. Don't slow down.
The only way to win, if there is a way,
is to stay in the race, keep up the pace.
There are people who walk through life,
how do they do it?
Their heads are held high, doesn't seem like
they're being chased.
Perhaps some of us need the runner's high
or the thrill of the chase.
Look in the mirror, are you running?
Where are we all running to?
The Storm
A storm blew in like an unwanted guest
The angry wind made its presence known
Trees shuddered in its wake bowing to it,
Some could not withstand the sheer force of it
and gave up the fight.
A thousand tears came down from heaven
As leaves were reluctantly plucked from the
safety of the trees and forced to
Swirl among many perilous things.
Ocean waves hurled themselves furiously
at the unprotected shores
And the sky forgot there was a sun.
One cannot fight a force unseen nor defend
itself against nature's elements.
Where is God on a day like today?
Is he the shrouded force or is it the collective
feelings of an iniquitous people?
Why this turbulence of feelings swirling about?
Perhaps a test for humankind to strengthen the soul.
Put on your coat of armor and turn your face to the wind.
Do you have what it takes to survive the storm?
